After Clark leaves, Lionel sees the slot. After discussing the caves with Lex, Lionel goes to see Dr. Swan. Since Lex has been framed for the deaths at the lab, he decides to work with the police by wearing a wire. The big news is I went to the New York Comic Con again. As the San Diego Comic Con has gotten too huge and impossible to attend (130,000 people), I have pretty much switched up my allegiance to New York. Don't read in here that New York is small. New York is a big show (116,00 people), but getting a ticket, airfare, food and hotel is much easier.

But New York is closing the gap on other things like a massive dealers room and large Artist Alley. The Artist Alley was held in a separate room this year and was huge. San Diego could learn from this. San Diego still is by far the king when it comes to programming (panel) rooms. However New York has made some serious strides.

When I was in New York this year I also went to three book stores: Jim Hanley's Universe, Forbidden Planet and Strand. During my time at Strand they had a three man panel, meet and greet/signing. The authors/artists/designers were Chip Kidd, Charles Burns and Chris Ware. I brought some of my favorite works from each creator and got them signed. This was definitely a high light of my trip.

At the hospital Clark and Chloe confront Dr. Foster about her upcoming electroshock therapy on Lex. While at therapy for her broken leg, Lana meets a new friend, Adam. Later Dr. Foster is found dead from a mysterious car wreck. Knowing about the impending electroshock therapy, Clark tries to rescue Lex. But Clark is blindsided by the patient who has possession of the Kryptonite rock. Meanwhile at the rehab, sparks fly with Lana and Adam. A dazed Clark is hooked up to the asylum's electric generator. With the Kryptonite holding him down, the third patient is now going to try to steal his powers. In the electroshock room, Lionel watches on as a new doctor gives Lex a shock. Clark looses his powers. During the fight Clark is able to shock the patient and get back his powers. With both remaining patients down, Clark races up to the electroshock room. He is too late. During a robbery at the Smallville jewelry store, Clark tries to intervene. One robber uses a sonic scream and Clark is blinded in the process. The screaming robber gets away. The other is caught. The next day Clark is back in high school with Pete as his seeing eye dog. At the same time Chloe gets a phone call from Lionel. He wants more info on Clark. At school, Clark's hearing goes crazy sensitive. He over hears some of Chloe's phone call. Later Lex visits Clark at home. Clark tells him his dad's job offer was a shame. Lex pays for Lana's hospital/rehab bill because he feels responsible. While at home Clark gets a visit from Chloe. He asks her how long she's been working with Lionel. She comes clean. But Clark doesn't except her apology. Later while out by the road Clark and Pete are talking. A wrecker pulls up and the robber with the sonic scream unleashes his power. Clark is down and Pete is kidnapped. Later at the Kents, it becomes apparent that Pete was kidnapped because his mom is the judge on the case. At the mansion, Lex tells Lionel he won't except his shame job. Back in town, Clark hears the familiar sound of the truck that was there when Pete was kidnapped. Clark almost rescues Pete, but the kidnappers get away with him. Clark's vision is slowly coming back. Clark over hears one of the jewel thieves tell the other to get rid of Pete. Clark catches up to them at a junk yard. Clark rescues Pete just before he's crushed in a car crusher. During the rescue, the robber is crushed under a mountain of wrecked cars. Because Lionel suspects Chloe told Lex about the shame job and her threats toward him, Lionel kills her column in the Daily Planet and her father looses his job. Meanwhile, Clark's vision is back. At home Lana tells Clark that she has met someone else. As she is driving off, he can hear her crying.

I'm back with some Smallville viewing. Check it out.

Season 2 Episode 22 Calling (original air date 5-13-03).

Lex is summoned to the hospital. Dr. Walden is getting an MRI. The doctor in charge says that some of his higher brain functions have returned. At the farm Lana brings Clark a birthday cake. This leads to their first meaningful kiss. Lex asks the Kents to set in for him at the rehearsal dinner. At the Talon Chloe catches Lana and Clark in a lie about what they were doing last night. Someone broke into Dr. Brice's office. The only thing that was stolen was the sample of Clark's blood. After Lana and Clark's night together, Lana wants to say it was a mistake. While talking to Lana in a field, Clark hears someone saying: "The day is coming". At the hospital it's Dr. Walden saying "the day is coming". Dr. Walden uses a force power to brake out of his holding cell. Dr. Walden then goes to the caves and uses his power to turn on the cave wall. At the mansion, Lionel catches Helen going through Lex' files on the Kents. Lionel suggests Lex stole the object from Dr. Brice's office. Later at the caves Lionel finds Clark looking for Dr. Walden. Lionel tells Clark that he once had an object that would fit into the impression in the wall and he is now the conservator of the caves. He also notices that the walls might have changed. Clark tells his parents that the wall message now reads: "The day is coming when the last son will begin his quest to rule the third planet". At the mansion, Lex and his dad are having a heated debate about the caves. Dr. Walden breaks in. He says he can read the walls, what the message says and the last son is Clark. And they need to kill him! Dr. Walden then gets tranquilized by his doctor. Lex tells Clark about Dr. Walden's rant. At the Torch Lionel asks Chloe to do a complete investigative report on Clark. She refuses. In an ambulance bound for the hospital, Dr. Walden brakes out. After his best man speech, Clark is called back to the farm by the disk. There he finds Dr. Walden who tries to kill him. During their battle there is an explosion that kills Dr. Walden. During a talk about trust, Helen suspects Lex in the break in. He denies it. But when she leaves the room Lex pulls out the vile with Clark's blood in it. Clark gets back the disk. At the morgue, Lionel notices that Dr. Walden body is charred except for the disk shaped impression on the palm. Lionel gets the hand. Clark gets his kiss from Lana but an upset Chloe sees it. The ship summons Clark to the cellar.

Season 3 Episode 23 Exodus (original air date 5-20-03).

In the cellar the ship has started on it's own. It morphs into a sphere and communicates with Clark. It tells Clark to let go of his past. The ship explodes and envelops Clark. The next morning Clark tells his parents. In the cellar the ship is back together. At the mansion Lex tells Helen he was behind her office break in. He gives her back the vile of (Clark's) blood. She takes it and tells him it's over (is it?). In the the caves Lionel is having machinery installed. Lionel shows Clark that hes had a key made out of Kryptonite. Lionel notices that Clark has an aversion to it. At sunset the ship attacks Clark and brands him on the chest. Clark hatches a plane to destroy the ship. With Pete's help, Clark steals the Kryptonite disc from Lionel. Back at the barn (with the disc) Clark is confronted by Chloe about his and Lana's relationship. Clark misses Lex and Helen's wedding. Clark places the disc in the ship and it blows up. The energy wave destroys the cellar and flips Jonathan and Martha's truck. After the wedding, Lex and Helen are flying away for their honeymoon. A dejected Chloe takes Lionel offer. Clark puts on the red Kryptonite ring and leaves town. On the plane, a drugged Lex wakes up to find everyone gone and the plane going down.

That raps up season two.
Now that the first half of the year is over I find myself ahead on most of my challenges. Over 350 of 500 comics read, twelve books (or more) read and twenty graphic novels (or more) read. What I am really lacking is any kind of momentum on my Smallville Challenge. Going forward for the rest of the year I'm going to focus on completing that challenge.

To finish up my graphic novel reading I decided to finish strong. To do that I read four graphic novels by the godfather of the graphic novel - Will Eisner.

#17 (of 20) Moby Dick adapted by Will Eisner.

Ishmael, a young man, hopes to join a whaling ship. Along the way he meets a harpooner named Queequeg. Together they join the crew of the whaling ship Pequod. Although all seems normal they haven't met their captain yet. After days at sea Captain Ahab finally addresses the crew. Ahab announces that they will be looking for the great white whale - Moby Dick. The captain is all consumed with killing the beast that took his leg. And so goes the tale.

This classic tale by Herman Melville has been worked into a nice graphic novel by Will Eisner. He not only adapted the story but illustrated, lettered and colored it. Nicely done.

#18 (of 20) The Princess and the Frog adapted by Will Eisner.

When an evil wizard asks to be the castles wizard, the young prince tells him - "No". This makes the old wizard Gnarl quite upset. He turns the young prince into a frog. The only thing that will break the spell is a kiss from a maiden. So the frog heads off to live with other frogs. When that doesn't work out he heads over to live by a water well. There he meets his maiden.

This Brothers Grimm tale was once again adapted, lettered, drawn and colored by Will Eisner. Another winner.
A long time ago in Spain Alanzo Quixano only read old books about Chivalry and Knighthood. He becomes so obsessed with it he decides to be a knight. To do so he takes his great grandfathers armor out of the attic, cleans it and becomes the Last Knight. After being Knighted by a local inn-keeper, he is re-named Don Quixote. With his horse, he is now ready to right wrongs. As his quest continues he is joined by his side-kick Sancho. And the adventure continues.

This is a tale from thirteenth century Africa. Sumanguru was the King of the land of Sasso. He was a great conqueror for his people. When Sumanguru hears about the friendly country of Mali, he decides to conquer it. This was an easy task since Mali's king had died. During his raid, all of Mali's kings sons were killed save one - the lame youngest son Sundiata. After years of hard work Sundiata could finally stand, then run, then hunt. Once he grew to manhood he was able to rally other warriors from defeated tribes. Now he was ready to challenge Sumanguru.
