NEW YORK COMIC CON '12

Inside the con. The BEST Batmobile!

Hi Friends,

After a seven week absence, I'm back. Sorry for the radio silence. I've been reading a few comic books and trades as always. And watched some movies and TV (The Walking Dead, The Talking Dead and Comic Book Men).

 Time Square.

The big news is I went to the New York Comic Con again. As the San Diego Comic Con has gotten too huge and impossible to attend (130,000 people), I have pretty much switched up my allegiance to New York. Don't read in here that New York is small. New York is a big show (116,00 people), but getting a ticket, airfare, food and hotel is much easier.

The Amazing Chip Kidd.

New York is missing a few things that make San Diego so cool. Namely night time programming that include movies, gaming, the kick-ass costume contest and of course the Eisner awards. And of course the beautiful weather.

 Charles Burns and Chris Ware.

But New York is closing the gap on other things like a massive dealers room and large Artist Alley. The Artist Alley was held in a separate room this year and was huge. San Diego could learn from this. San Diego still is by far the king when it comes to programming (panel) rooms. However New York has made some serious strides.

The main entrance of the Dakota.

Shops many levels deep inside Penn Station.

When I was in New York this year I also went to three book stores: Jim Hanley's Universe, Forbidden Planet and Strand. During my time at Strand they had a three man panel, meet and greet/signing. The authors/artists/designers were Chip Kidd, Charles Burns and Chris Ware. I brought some of my favorite works from each creator and got them signed. This was definitely a high light of my trip.

My Woody Allen sandwich at Carnegie Deli.

Other high lights include: walking through central park, eating at Carnegie Deli and going to Grand Central Terminal. I also went to the Dakota where John Lennon lived.

Check out some photos.

Smallville - A Retrospective - 15.

Greetings Friends,

I'm back with some Smallville viewing. Check it out.

Season 2 Episode 22 Calling (original air date 5-13-03).

Lex is summoned to the hospital. Dr. Walden is getting an MRI. The doctor in charge says that some of his higher brain functions have returned. At the farm Lana brings Clark a birthday cake. This leads to their first meaningful kiss. Lex asks the Kents to set in for him at the rehearsal dinner. At the Talon Chloe catches Lana and Clark in a lie about what they were doing last night. Someone broke into Dr. Brice's office. The only thing that was stolen was the sample of Clark's blood. After Lana and Clark's night together, Lana wants to say it was a mistake. While talking to Lana in a field, Clark hears someone saying: "The day is coming". At the hospital it's Dr. Walden saying "the day is coming". Dr. Walden uses a force power to brake out of his holding cell. Dr. Walden then goes to the caves and uses his power to turn on the cave wall. At the mansion, Lionel catches Helen going through Lex' files on the Kents. Lionel suggests Lex stole the object from Dr. Brice's office. Later at the caves Lionel finds Clark looking for Dr. Walden. Lionel tells Clark that he once had an object that would fit into the impression in the wall and he is now the conservator of the caves. He also notices that the walls might have changed. Clark tells his parents that the wall message now reads: "The day is coming when the last son will begin his quest to rule the third planet". At the mansion, Lex and his dad are having a heated debate about the caves. Dr. Walden breaks in. He says he can read the walls, what the message says and the last son is Clark. And they need to kill him! Dr. Walden then gets tranquilized by his doctor. Lex tells Clark about Dr. Walden's rant. At the Torch Lionel asks Chloe to do a complete investigative report on Clark. She refuses. In an ambulance bound for the hospital, Dr. Walden brakes out. After his best man speech, Clark is called back to the farm by the disk. There he finds Dr. Walden who tries to kill him. During their battle there is an explosion that kills Dr. Walden. During a talk about trust, Helen suspects Lex in the break in. He denies it. But when she leaves the room Lex pulls out the vile with Clark's blood in it. Clark gets back the disk. At the morgue, Lionel notices that Dr. Walden body is charred except for the disk shaped impression on the palm. Lionel gets the hand. Clark gets his kiss from Lana but an upset Chloe sees it. The ship summons Clark to the cellar.

Season 3 Episode 23 Exodus (original air date 5-20-03).

In the cellar the ship has started on it's own. It morphs into a sphere and communicates with Clark. It tells Clark to let go of his past. The ship explodes and envelops Clark. The next morning Clark tells his parents. In the cellar the ship is back together. At the mansion Lex tells Helen he was behind her office break in. He gives her back the vile of (Clark's) blood. She takes it and tells him it's over (is it?). In the the caves Lionel is having machinery installed. Lionel shows Clark that hes had a key made out of Kryptonite. Lionel notices that Clark has an aversion to it. At sunset the ship attacks Clark and brands him on the chest. Clark hatches a plane to destroy the ship. With Pete's help, Clark steals the Kryptonite disc from Lionel. Back at the barn (with the disc) Clark is confronted by Chloe about his and Lana's relationship. Clark misses Lex and Helen's wedding. Clark places the disc in the ship and it blows up. The energy wave destroys the cellar and flips Jonathan and Martha's truck. After the wedding, Lex and Helen are flying away for their honeymoon. A dejected Chloe takes Lionel offer. Clark puts on the red Kryptonite ring and leaves town. On the plane, a drugged Lex wakes up to find everyone gone and the plane going down.

That raps up season two.

Keep Watching.
